To read the time, stand in a sunny spot, hold the watch upright, and align it north using the integrated compass. When the shadow hand is open, it casts a shadow on the hour ring, allowing you to read the time. If the sun is at an unfavorable angle—for example, because it's so high at noon that the hand doesn't cast a shadow—this can also be corrected with the watch. To do this, open the angle indicator and tilt the hour ring until the hand's shadow falls back onto the hour ring.
