Crisping in General
Crisping, also known as Levanting, is a process in leather processing where the leather gains flexibility and the grain is emphasized.
The Crisping Process
The tanned and dyed wet leather is pulled over a metal edge using two rollers.
In this process, the grain side of the leather is compressed, and fine, parallel folds are formed in the leather.
The crisping process leaves a permanent change on the leather surface, similar to embossing. The most well-known leather of this type is Saffiano leather.
